Please note, Hand on Heart Psychology is not currently accepting new referrals.
Also, this is not a crisis service. If you have found your way here but are in significant distress and needing urgent support, there are a list of crisis options available here.
You are there for them.
I am here for you.
My aim is to provide a calm and safe space for parents and carers of sick kids. When carers feel supported and have their own needs addressed, there are positive flow-on effects for the sick child, their sibling/s and others.
Why Hand on Heart?
Firstly, placing a hand on one’s heart is an act of compassion, self-soothing and self-awareness, a way of acknowledging that big feelings are happening, whilst also steadying oneself using inner resources which are always available. I have witnessed the pain, shock and grief of parents and carers who are grappling with challenges around their child’s illness and note that it is not uncommon for parents to place a hand on their heart or hold onto themselves in other ways.
Secondly, the gesture of placing a hand on one’s heart is often used to demonstrate honesty or sincerity. My goal is to work collaboratively with parents and carers. I will do my utmost to listen well and understand where you are coming from and what you need, and to provide feedback or offer suggestions in a way that is open and transparent. I hope to build a sense of trust and mutual respect.
